Your baby is entering in the ninth-month of his life. You can see your baby growing more in this month. His first birthday is near now. This thought makes you more excited. Here are some developments and some changes that you can see in your ninth-month-old baby.

Here we are talking about 9-MONTH-OLD baby’s development:

At this stage, the baby is attached to his mother, his father, or his caregiver so much. So, he cannot bear their absence. He does not feel comfortable in the presence of strangers. (S)He loves to be with his parents all the time. He always resists what others want him to do. (S)He is only obedient to his parents at this stage. At this stage, he will start to copy others in his behavior and mood. He does not like to play, or he does not behave nicely with other kids of his age. It does not mean he is a disobedient kid at all; it is just because he does not recognize others as equal. At this stage of his life, he wants to be loveable, valuable; he wants that everybody should love him. (S)He wants everyone’s attention and love. He loves to play social games like peek-a-boo.

As you know, at this stage, the baby can crawl, and even he may begin to walk. He can now take some steps with the help of furniture like a table or sofa. Be around the baby when he is trying to walk. He also tries to climbs up the stairs. So, you should always be there for him. He can now sit for a very long period. And he can also now pull himself for standing purpose. Now he learns that he can let go of things from his hand, and he can try to reach for objects that are far from him. He can now use his thumb and little finger to pick up the small objects. In this way, he can also pick up the small pieces of food which allow him to self-feed. At this stage, the baby tries to put everything in his mouth.

There should be no tiny pieces on the floor. He can now shake the toys or even throw them. From previous months your baby starts making sounds. But this month, he is trying to speak more clearly. He can now speak words like “mama mama” dada dada.” He starts babbling, which contains consonant and vowel words. He can now understand his name. Whenever you take his name, he will look at you or turn his head towards your voice. He also understands the meaning of no. When you say no to him, he might stop doing something. He communicates with the help of cry in different ways to tell you that he is hungry or he is sleepy.

He makes different sounds in different situations. Now he is spending most of his time observing what is going on in his surroundings. He is so curious that he wants to know everything. (S)He would chase a rolling ball that disappears from his sight, and he will go for his search. He loves to explore hidden objects. The baby’s perception is evolving at this stage. He can sit without your support or any help of cushions for a very long time.

He tries to reach for toys that are away from him. He tries to move from tummy and back into a sitting position. He can now move with leg and arms like creeping crawling also. (S)He can pick up his head when he is on tummy time and can push through his elbows. He can turn his head while sitting towards moving objects also. His rolling over and sitting is now more accurate than before.

He is now able to hold and pick small objects or large objects. He now sits quietly. He loves to move, jumping, crawling, to creep; he loves to do different types of movements like bouncing up and down, etc. He can examine the little objects by using his fingers and mouth. He can now able to turn the pages of the book. He will experiment on how much force is required to pull a toy or different objects. He can now build up his focus on near and far objects also. He also checks and notices the size, shapes, and texture of objects and toys in his surroundings. He can now investigate the environment while lying, sitting, or during crawling, etc. He can now look at objects when someone calls their name.

He can now feed on his own. He also starts to eat thicker puree and mashed food. Now the baby’s routine of feeding is set. He also enjoys teether massage that heals and soothes his swollen gums during the teething process. He also jumps for food and tries to pick up the food which is nearby him. He shows a very strong reaction when you introduce a new food or smell to him. He is now using his finger to point out something. He now has his favorite toys, which he uses as his friends or his bodyguard. He takes his favorite one everywhere with him and feels discomfort in his absence.

Your baby is now grooming. He has his perceptions now. He may be very emotional and social. He may smile to everyone, he meets, or he may be a little bit shy and nervous or hiding behind you while meeting others. He waves you goodbye when he sees you close to the door. He will make gestures to get your attention. He may make a noise or make different faces so that he may get your attention. At this stage of his life, he will start to remember some, especially information, for example, where his toys are placed in the house. He will also try to copy all those actions which he sees since his birth. This shows that his memory works well. Now he can remember some specific information or details about things. His memory is still short term.

He will not be able to develop long-lasting or long-term memory until his second or third year of his life starts when he starts speaking properly. At this stage, the baby is now able to put and remove objects and his toys in a basket. You can give him a plastic box and some blocks, toys so that he can rehearse his new skills as well. But be sure objects are not so small that the baby could swallow them. Give them big plastic cars with tires so he can move it on the floor and enjoy it.

Baby at this stage likes the toy which can move, so give your nine-month-old baby a new variety of toys. If your baby has some favorite toys and you take away his favorite toy from him, he will start objecting now. He is now able to tell you his desires, his needs, his liking, and his disliking to you. He may argue with you about that. If you must take an object away from him, the valid method is to give him a new thing in return; then, he will not argue with you. So, give him a new object before taking back another object. Not all but half of the babies of this age love to play passing games.

Be his playmate. Give him company for playing purpose. Give him some object then take back from him. He will also do this. First, take an object from you then pass it to you. It is a fun game. You can also try a rolling ball towards your baby and see if he returns you the ball back. Give him such toys that he can share with you. In such a way, a habit of sharing things will be developed in your baby.

In this month, the baby will also give you their piece of food so take it graciously these tiny food pieces from your baby. It seems your baby is developing a habit of sharing his belongings, which is a good sign. If other kids are present in the house so, this habit would be helpful for you, as most kids do not like to share their toys or food with other siblings who can cause fights and tension. So, try to develop a habit of share in your babies at this stage. Now your baby language skills are also improving. For example, if you ask him where the car is? Your baby will point towards the ball, or he may go to pick up the ball for you.

During reading time, when you ask him where is the apple? He will point his finger towards the apple picture in the book.
Separation anxiety is still part of your baby’s life. He becomes less happy when you leave him alone. Your baby may feel discomfort in the presence of such people that even doesn’t bother him before. This anxiety remains with your baby at least at the age of two, three years of his life. In this stage, the mother should stay with his baby. It is normal to show such kind of attachments towards parents at this age. The baby does not want to be with the caregiver and grandparents also.

So it is difficult for grandparents to show affection to the little baby. Let your baby spend some time with different people. Let your baby make the first move. When your baby gets comfortable, then it will be easy for others to be with your baby. The mother should help the baby to introduce him to a familiar environment. Play different types of games with your baby. It will enhance his skills also.

Make bathroom time a fun place for your baby. Your baby will love to play with bubbles and toys in the bathroom. Give him empty cups, fill water in it, and then release water. He would love to watch the waterfall. At this age, the baby can understand the tune of your mood. Baby will understand your mood by the tone of your voice instead of your words. He may not obey your no now. But it does not mean your baby is disobedient.

With time your baby will learn to obey your orders. Your baby is a good listener now. He will listen to your orders. But not obey them yet. Now your baby is about to walk. He loves to roll over, crawl, and creep so much. Do practice of walking with your baby. But do not buy shoes for your baby. Until your baby is not able to walk on his own, there is no need for shoes at all.

Babies’ feet grow very fast, and if you tight your baby’s feet in a shoe, they can’t straighten out or grow as they should. Let your baby go barefoot in the grass or floor. It will strengthen his muscles. It is also easy for the baby to move and walk without shoes. They also can feel the different texture with their barefoot. Now your baby is aware of what are their belongings. And they are now conscious of them.

If they see their toy in the hands of some else, they can make a loud noise or want it back from them. You can distract him by pointing their attention towards another object. But it might be possible they could stick to their belongings. At this stage, the baby babbles so much. We think their babbling means nothing, but psychology says they talk to us. But we can’t understand babbling, so we think it is meaningless. The mother should keep talking to them.

The mother plays a significant role in the development of the baby. Mother is the first teacher of the baby. You should keep talking to your baby. Tell him this is a door, this is a cup, that is a tree. All these practices with your little kid will enhance his language skills. The mother should teach the baby turn-taking. You should play such games with your baby. For example, give him a toy and say now it’s my turn and hand over it to your baby and then say now it’s your turn.

In this way, your baby will learn turn-taking. At this stage, babies are much curious about walking. Allow your baby to crawl, to creep, to walk, and to stand. But be sure you have to be with your baby all the time during his walking practice. Help your baby to walk. Hold your baby’s hand and let them walk, or give them some support so that they can walk easily.

The baby loves the tickling game. It’s a fun and very excited game for the babies. It will make them laugh and giggle. Play this little piggy game with baby’s toe. This is the best game ever for the baby at this stage. You can also start finger painting with your little angel. Give them solid old papers and color their finger, and it will be more fun for your baby. But be with the baby; perhaps he tries to put his finger in his mouth. Give your baby problem-solving toys also. He would love them. It will enhance your baby’s thinking capability.

Encourage your baby to walk and to speak. Listen to them when they talk to you as they are telling you their problems or their joys. Listen to him and give a proper response to your baby’s talk. The more you talk, the better. Talk with your baby daily. Tell him about your daily routine. Tell him, what are you doing? Talk to him like now it’s time to take a bath. It’s time for lunch etc. This kind of conversation will enhance your baby’s communication skills.

Every baby is unique in his way. They will grow at their own pace. Some babies are born healthy, or some babies are born weak. So give your baby his time. But if you see the following situations in your baby, then visit your baby doctor. If you see your baby is not making eye contact with you or baby not follow the moving objects. Or you note that baby turn in or turn out his eye most of the time; then you should consult with the doctor if you note that your baby is not babbling and does not communicate with you or do not utter a vowel or consonant word. Then it’s an alarming situation. If your baby does not turn his head towards your voice or any other voice, talk to your doctor.

If your baby does not pass a smile or show any emotion or affection towards you, If she is not giving you a happy or sad mood signal or if he has a flat face all the time, it’s time to worry. If your baby cannot sit on his own if he does not crawl creep or walk, use only his one hand most of the time, if he has a rounded neck during his sitting time or if he has a stiff body. If he has very poor use of his arms while sitting, if he faces any difficulty in moving or if he uses most the time on his one side. If baby is not able to take weight on his legs. If he is not ready yet to transfer one toy from his one hand to another hand.

If he is not enjoying while playing with different varieties of toys and different texture. If he does not like to play with musical toys or does not give any response to the voice. If he is not interested in playing with color-full toys, or if he is not able to explore the world when he is on the floor. He shows less interest in his surroundings. If you see your baby is not enjoying the different movements like you’re swung, or he shows no emotion when you make movements with him. If he does not give a response to your voice or he looks so fearful because of everyday sounds.

All these situations are alarming for you, so you should consult with your baby’s doctor. If your baby is not interested in interacting with other people or he is unresponsive to the voices. Or if he does not give any response to his name. If he is still unable to hold on his milk bottle during feeding. If the baby does not have any grip on his spoon when you are feeding him, then you should consult your baby doctor.

In the case of a baby boy, the weight should be 7.2 to 10.9, and the baby’s height should be 67.7 to 76.2, and head circumference should be 42.6 to 47.4. And in the case of a baby girl, weight should be 6.6 to 10. 4 and baby girl height should be 65.6 to 74.7, and the baby’s head circumference should be 41.3 to 46.3.

Baby is not able to join in yet, but he would love to see you singing the song and dancing when you finger out to the parts of the body. Help your baby to point out his nose, head, shoulder knees, and toes. Point towards his nose and ask him where your nose is? Where is your head? At this stage, play with your baby when you get free time. It will enhance love between both of you.
