Congratulations, your baby has now entered the 7th month of his life. He is now more active and responsive to his surroundings. Now your seven-month-old baby is becoming independent and evolving his personality. He is learning how to control his surroundings. Here are the following changes and milestones that a baby achieves when he reaches his seventh month.
Here we are talking about 7-MONTH-OLD baby’s development:
WHAT (S)HE CAN DO NOW
At this stage, your baby should be able to sit without even your support. He can now sit on his own. He maybe a little bit clingy, but most of the time, he should be sitting on his own without mama’s support or any cushion’s support also. By this period, he should be able to copy the speech sound. Whatever you speak to him, he tries to copy you. And whenever he does, that encourage him so much it will boost up his confidence level also.
He can now feed himself with the help of a spoon, or he can now pick a portion of food and feed himself if he is using the formula for a feed he can hold his bottle with the help of his hands. Now you do not need to hold his bottle for feeding purposes. He can do it on his own. He should be able to razz you with making a wet razzing sound. That is so joyful for you. It’s a new experience for you and your seven months old. He is always smiling at you now whenever you are interacting with him. A smile may have become his logo now. You are going to receive a bundle of a smile daily now.
By the end of this month, he will be able to crawl and lunge forward. But some healthier babies start crawling at the starting of seven months. His senses are becoming more responsive now. If you drop an object in front of the baby, he will look for it. He is now noticing everything in his surroundings. He is now curious about everything around him. He is now doing arguments with you. If you take away his favorite toy, he will object. He will cry if you do not fulfill his demands.
If anything is away from his approach, he tries to get it and reach it. He is now exploring the world. He can play peek-a-boo now. He may be able to stand on his feet but holding something or with the help of mama’s. He is now ready to shake his hands. He can clap now he waves goodbye now. He may bang his toys or other objects now. He can be possibly able to walk with the help of some furniture. He may start to say “mama” or “dada.” And says vowel words to you to express his emotions.
MILESTONES DEVELOPMENT AT THIS MONTH
From the fourth month to seven months, it is a period in which the baby learns to coordinate his abilities like touch, vision, hearing, etc., and increasing his motor abilities. Here some milestones to look for. First of all, we take a look at his movement milestones. His movements are now no clingier and stiffer. He is now rolling over front to back and back to front on his own. Do not be surprised if you see your baby on the other side of the room while you left him on this side of the room. The days are gone when you put your baby at the place and when you come back, you find him there.
Now he can crawl, so do not be a surprise if you don’t see your baby at the place. He now has his wings, so he is exploring his world. Rolling over is a favorite hobby at this age of kids. So set him free for rollover. He can now sit with or without the support of his hands. A little bit of help he needs because every child is unique in his way. But most of the babies at this age can manage to sit without support, or they can sit with the help of their hands. He can now support his whole weight on his legs but not for such a long time but can hold on for some time.
He can now transfer one object from one hand to another. His eye and hand coordination are now developing more. He can now reach for objects with one hand. All these activities show that his movement milestones are developing very well. Now we will talk about his visual milestones. His vision is developing so well now. He can differentiate between colors. He can understand the differences between bright colors as well as light colors. He can now see the objects that are placed at a distance. He is now able to recognize your face from a distance also. He is now ready to identify other family member’s faces even. He now knows about strangers and family. His ability to track moving objects is going to be better this month.
He can now differentiate between bigger and smaller objects. Now we have a look at his language milestones. Now your baby starts to understand language. Now your baby gives you a response when you say him no. Not every time he follows your instructions, but he will respond to you when you say him no. When you say his name, he turns up his head towards your voice. This month, babies are experts in nonverbal communication. They speak a lot with their expressions. They use facial expressions to express their grin and frown.
They can now also judge by the voice of your tone that either you are happy or you are in a bad mood. He can express his happiness and fussiness also. He can even recognize the mood of yours and other family members. He uses vowel words to talk. Now we will talk about his cognitive milestones. He is curious about his surroundings now. He will look for hidden objects now. He wants to know what that is. Partially hidden objects make a baby so much interested, so he tries to solve the mystery. He analyzes the world with his hands and mouth. He wants to touch everything that he sees. He makes struggles to reach for objects that are far away from him.
Now we look at his social and emotional milestones. He has become so much responsive now. He enjoys with others now. He is a little social animal now. He is now much more interested in his image in the mirror. He likes to watch himself in the mirror for a long time. He talks to himself in front of the mirror and enjoys it a lot. He enjoys other sibling company also. He wants to play with them.
In this month, teething can start. Teething is very pain full in this period, and your baby may get fever also. Or he might become so much irritable or fussy. He will cry all the time because of the pain of gums. It may start from the fourth month of his life, but now you can see tiny white tooth buds rising from the gums. Usually, his first teeth erupt at this age, but if it does not erupt, it is okay. You can wait a little bit more. You will know your seven-month-old baby is teething just because he will slobber and will be harder to please than before. To relieve gum pain, give your infant a teething ring so he may chew on it. A chilled teething ring will relieve the baby from pain.
Do not give your baby any pain killer or avoid rubbing any pain killer on his gums. At this stage, it is not suitable for the baby as it can evoke an adverse reaction. So, avoid giving a pain killer and give him teeth ring. When some teeth pop up, brush them daily with a baby toothbrush with a little amount of baby toothpaste. Don’t worry if your baby does not have teeth. The teething plan varies from baby to baby. Some babies took one year for teething, so it’s normal if your baby doesn’t have teeth yet. He will soon show the symptoms of teething. Every baby has their own capacity. Some are born with teeth, or some have no teeth even at the age of one year.
USING BOTH HANDS:
At this stage, the baby starts using both hands. His grip on things becomes stronger. He can now hold toys with his hands. And something more is that he can use his fingers and thumbs also to pick up small objects. It means his movement milestones are going well. He knows the difference between large and small objects. Now he knows which objects he can pick up with hands and which things he can pick up with fingers and thumbs. He can now pass things from one hand to another hand very quickly.
GAME OF THE MONTH:
Spin a softball back and ahead to your child when he sits on the ground. It may inspire your baby to move. At this phase, the baby loves stuff toys, both big and small.
HOW MOTHER CAN HELP BABY AT SEVEN MONTH OF HIS/HER LIFE:
The mother plays a vital role in the development of the baby. She is the only one who understands her baby so well. She knows about his needs, his happiness, or his fussiness. She knows his baby’s mood swings. She knows very well when his baby needs food, when he wants to sleep, and when he wants to play. So, a mother can play a significant role in his baby’s development. Your baby copies you now.
He chooses those things which you frequently use, like your mobile phone. He also loves to play with your mobile phone or your car keys or the items which you use on a daily basis. Give them a mini plastic phone to please them. Toys with different shapes can enhance your baby’s motor skills. So, it’s a good time to introduce some toys. Introduce your baby with a variety of different toys. He will love it seriously.
The mother should sing different poems or nursery rhymes to improve his language and listening skills. Read bedtime stories with your baby. It will enhance their interest in reading and develop a habit of listening to them. If your baby wants to do something and fails in many attempts, do not leave him in fussiness. It’s time to encourage him. It’s time to tell him about his potential. Encourage him to do the task. You can help him by doing the things easy for him. Never let him down. Now your baby is on solid food, so make him sit on the table of the meal. Make your baby the part of your family at the time of the meal. It will boost up his confidence.
He will get a chance to know about other family members also. It will leave a good impact on him. It can develop family bonding also. Manage time from your schedule for baby to play. Play with your baby on a regular basis e.g., Peek-a-boo, a little piggy, etc. Give him attention and love. The area in which your baby plays should be dirt proof. It must be neat and clean. There should be no such thing that can harm your baby. Your baby teething procedure starts at this age. The vibrating teether is also available in the market. The teether vibrates when the baby bites it. It will be funny for the baby. It will learn baby than he can control his surrounding as vibration starts when he bites and stop when he does not.
WEIGHT OF BABY BOY AND BABY GIRL IN THIS MONTH
In the case of a baby girl, at the phase of seven months a baby girl weight should be 6.1 to 6.96 kg and her height should be 62.9 to 71.6 cm and her head circumference should be 40.4 to 45.3 and in the case of a baby boy the weight should be 6.7 to 10.2 and their height should be 65.1 to 73.2 and their head circumference should be from 41.7 to 46.3. Don’t worry if your baby is not fit in the chart as we say again and again that every baby is unique in his own way.
SEPARATION OF NIGHT TIME:
If you make your baby sleep in a separate room before, that is fine, but not now as he is aware of you. He notices your presence and absence. If your baby feels anxiety in your absence at night, spend some more time with him. Cuddle him, love him, soothe him. If you give him a feeling of security, then it is easy for him to fell asleep early. Spend some time with him at night. When he sleeps, then you can go to your room.
At this stage, the baby experiences more things, like your authority. You have told your little angel that the mobile phone is not a toy, and you should not throw away the rattle or his toys, or her sister’s hair is not for pulling purpose. So, at this stage, he tries to check out your authority by refusing your orders, but it really does not mean he is disobedient. He is just curious and wants to experience things. And one more thing, his memory is not so powerful yet that he could remember your commands. You tell him one thing and another second; he will forget it. The best way is to say a simple no or just distract your baby and make him busy in other activities.
IDENTIFY DIFFERENT OBJECTS:
At this stage, your baby is not aware that which is a toy or which is not a toy. But it is his starting point to understand about different objects. And he may become happier on his favorite one. It’s time to introduce different objects to your baby with different shapes. If there are some items that you don’t want your baby to play with it, keep them away from the baby’s reach. By this month, he cannot judge that which object is better for him or which object can harm him. So, you should take care of this thing and keep your item in such an order that the baby cannot reach them. When he sees your image in the mirror, he does not think that you are in the mirror, he turns back and sees you. It means he now understands the mirror image and reality.
WHEN TO WORRY:
At this stage, your baby has developed so much. He has learned most of the things. As every baby has his own capabilities. He grows at his own pace, but if you note these symptoms in your baby, it’s time to worry. Consult with your baby doctor if you observe that your baby’s body is stiff, and his muscles are also tight and stiff or if you note that your baby is very floppy like a toy. When you try to make him sit, but his head flops back when you put your baby body in a sitting position.
If you note your baby do not use both hands and only use his one hand or if he does not like cuddles, if he refuses to cuddle with you, and if he shows no affection towards you and other family members who care for him then you should consult to your baby doctor soon.
If you note that your baby does not enjoy the company of other people or he feels discomfort in the presence of others, if you observe that your baby’s eyes turn in or turn out continuously, you should take him to the doctor. If you note that your baby’s eyes are always tearing or your baby’s eyes are sensitive to light, so you should call his doctor. If your baby does not turn up his head at your voice or he does not make any response to the sounds, and if he faces any difficulty to take any object to his mouth or does not turn his head to the objects or if he does not roll over in any direction by five months, so it is alarming.
If he does not pass a smile to you about the five months or if he does not make any sound or laughs or if he does not follow the moving objects or if he does not have any curiosity about his surroundings, call his doctor. If he cannot still sit with or without help or support, if he does not bear any kind of weight on his legs, even his body weight, if he shows no interest in the games, especially peek-a-boo, if he does not know how to babble yet, so it is time to worry. At this stage, the baby makes sounds, vowels, and can say words easily. If he does not take actions that attract you or if he does not give any expressions or does not show emotions, do not show love anger fussiness at all, it is an alarming situation.
As you know, every baby has his own pace, but if you see the above symptoms, then you should consult your baby doctor soon. Because it’s not too late yet. Give your baby the love and attention that he needs. Never smoke in the room where the baby lives.
