    South Beach Diet

    South Beach diet does not rely on low carbs or low fat. Instead, it's purpose is to educate people to rely on the right carbs and fats, and teach us to avoid the ‘bad’ ones. South Beach diet also looks at the way we eat our food. It works on the principle that weight gain is caused by sugars and starches being absorbed into the bloodstream too quickly. Highly processed foods, for example, are digested and absorbed very quickly by our stomachs causing a surge in blood sugar and a craving for more carbs and more food.

    Atkins Diet

    The Atkins diet works by restricting processed carbohydrates such as high-sugar foods, breads, grains, pasta, cereal and starchy vegetables. These carbohydrates are the body's primary energy source. By reducing carbohydrate intake to less than 20 grams per day, your body burns its secondary energy source (body fat) in a process called ketosis. Consequently, you lose weight.

    Weight Watchers

    Weight watchers is a diet program based on a points system. As a membership based program, it combines weight loss and exercises. With groups around the world, Weight Watchers offers special foods, cook-books, weight watchers recipes and exercise plans. Weight Watchers Points are awarded for success and the dieter has the support of members from his group.

    Cabbage Soup Diet

    The cabbage soup diet itself is simple. Eat as much cabbage soup as you like. This low-fat, high-fiber diet promises loss of up to 10 pounds in one week. It is not suitable for long-term weight loss and should be followed for only seven days. The recipe for the namesake cabbage soup includes a variety of vegetables as well as cabbage. Although the diet provides a good kick-start to more moderate diets, some people find the soup bland and report feeling light-headed and weak.

    Jenny Craig Diet

    The program involves eating the Jenny Craig food, meeting with a counselor once a week, and exercising. People are taught to change their diet by adding fruits and vegetables to the mix as well as whole grain foods. People can also buy additional supplements such as vitamin packs and antioxidants. The program focuses on altering your eating habits in order to meet long term weight loss goals.

    L A Weight Loss is a unique combination of regular foods that you can eat out or purchase at your grocery store AND personalized, one-on-one counseling.

    Body for Life

    Body for Life is a diet and exercise program created by Bill Phillips, the founder of EAS, a company that makes nutritional supplements. Designed for the serious body sculptor, the Body for Life diet is 12 weeks of dieting and intense activity. The active principle behind this rigorous diet and fitness program is that people will stick to programs that they see fast results from. It is designed to give you lots of energy so it includes a fair amount of calories. People who stick to this program should experience gradual, healthy weight loss.

    Grapefruit Diet

    This diet is based on the premise that grapefruit has fat burning properties. The grapefruit diet lasts 12 days, but if an individual wants to continue they must take at least two days off before doing so. While there is no hard evidence that grapefruit burns fat, the diet does have some success stories
