Need to update laws on Basant, says Taseer
GOVERNOR Punjab Salman Taseer has said that instead of imposing a ban on Basant Festival, there is a need of updating the laws in connection with its celebrations.
Talking to the reporters after inaugurating the 23rd Lahore International Book Fair (LIBF) on Saturday, the governor said it was not right to ban Basant because of few bad twines. “Basant is a festival of Lahorites”. He further said “I am in favour of celebrating Basant and support it”.
To a question, the governor replied “This is the season of contacting people, as senate’s elections are approaching”. “Since the PPP is also contesting the Senate elections therefore people are being contacted”.
“Somewhere, we are going to contact people while somewhere others are contacting us”, he added. “We have no differences with anyone but have understanding with all”, he answered a question. Replying to yet another question, he said Manzoor Wattoo was a seasoned politician and he used to consult him off and on.
