Nature's Testimony to The Holy Prophet(SAW)

Nature’s Testimony to the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam
The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam was sent by Allah Ta’aala as a Mercy unto the worlds, as well as a Messenger to the worlds. This includes humans, jinn, animals as well as nature. There have been various Mo’jizahs (Miracles) of the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam that occurred with trees as well them acknowledging him as the Messenger of Allah. Each of these miracles provide a unique insight into the station of the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam.
Hadrath ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu narrates that one day they were travelling with the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam. A Bedouin came towards the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam and the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam asked, ‘where are you travelling to?’ He said that he was on his way to his house. The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam asked him if he was pleased and had good fortune. The Bedouin enquired, ‘what is good fortune and pleasing?’ The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam said, ‘you should bear witness that except for Allah there is none worthy of worship, with no partners and Muhammed sallAllahu alayhi wasallam is his servant and Messenger.’
The Bedouin asked, ‘For what you are saying is there any proof.’ The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam said that tree is a proof. The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam called the tree which was at the edge of the valley. The tree dragged itself towards the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam causing a trench to form behind it. The tree stood before the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam and he asked the tree, three times, to give the Shahadah. The tree gave the Shahadah, then dragged itself back to its place at the edge of the valley. The Bedouin said, ‘I’m returning to my tribe and will tell them about this incident. If they believe me I will stay with them, if they don’t I will return and stay with you.’ (Imam Baihaqi Dalailun Nubuwa similar narration in Timidhi)
Hadrath Jabir bin Abdulla radi Allahu anhuma narrates that they were travelling with the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam and they stopped the Wadi of Afeeh. The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam required to attend to the call of nature and Hadrath Jabir radi Allahu anhu said he followed the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam with a container of water. They looked around and could not find any place of privacy. There were two trees but they were far apart.

The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam walked to one of the trees and said, ‘Obey me by the command of Allah.’ The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam held the tree and led it the way one would lead a camel. Then the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam went to the other tree and led it in a similar manner. Then the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam commanded them to join together by the command of Allah Ta’aala, so they came together.
Hadrath Jabir radi Allahu anhu said he gave the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam privacy and sat some distance away. Then I saw the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam walking towards me. The trees began to separate and went back to their positions. When the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam reached me he said, ‘Go to each of those trees and cut a branch.’ Hadrath Jabir radi Allahu anhu used a sharpened stone to cut the branches and returned to the Holy Prophet with a branch in each hand. The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam said, ‘We passed two graves on our way the people in the grave were being punished. I wish for my Shafat to relieve their suffering and while these two branches are moist they will get benefit.’ (Imam Baihaqi Dalailun Nubuwa)
This Hadith is filled with miracles:
    1. The first miracle is that the trees could hear and understand the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam, this is indeed phenomenal. Since something which normally doesn’t have human abilities is now hearing and comprehending the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam.
    2. Then the trees uprooted themselves and followed the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam. As the Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam led them they followed him. The trees understood what they needed to do and did so.
    3. Then the trees came close together so as to provide privacy to Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam. Once again they understood what was required of them and they were performing the task.
    4. Then the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam mentioned the two graves that they had passed. The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam was able to look into the graves and see that their occupants were being punished. This is an indication of the sight of the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam, to look into the ground. The miraculous sight of the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam is mentioned in many Ahadith. In one Hadith narrated in Sahih Muslim and Imam Baihaqi the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam warned the Sahaba radi Allahu anhum to perform their Ruku and Sajda correctly as he could see behind him just as well as he saw in front of him.
The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam then instructed Hadrath Jabir sallAllahu alayhi wasallam to cut a branch from each tree so they could place them on the graves. These branches would alleviate their suffering. Over and above the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam knowing that the occupants were being punished; he sallAllahu alayhi wasallam knew how to alleviate their punishment. Rahmatul lil Alameen (Mercy onto the worlds) in action!

Hadrath Anas bin Malik radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam used to lean against a palm tree and deliver his lecture. The Sahaba radi Allahu anhum then built a Mimbar for the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam. When the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam began to deliver his Khutba on the new Mimbar, a crying sound like that of a camel could be heard. The Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam stepped down from the new Mimbar and began to pat and rub the palm tree. The palm tree then quietened down. (Tirmidhi and Baihaqi)
This Hadith is indeed amazing because an inanimate object has become attached to the Holy Prophet and simply because the Holy Prophet used to lean on it. Furthermore, this inanimate object began crying so it was now alive and human like. Then when the palm tree was comforted by the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam it was soothed. Again a piece of tree could hear and understand the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam. This palm was also able to know the importance of being close to the Holy Prophet and once it was separated it began to cry.
These Ahadith shows us how inanimate things become alive simply by the instruction of the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam. Makes us wonder about our attachment and love for the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam. Do we cry for being far away from the Holy Prophet Do we cry for being far away from the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam or do we desire earnestly to see him. These are lessons in love for the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam being taught to us by trees.
Hadrath Ali ibn Abi Talib radi Allahu anhu narrates that he was walking with the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam, in Makka and every tree and stone said, ‘As salaamu alaika Ya Rasoolullah.’ (Tirmidhi)

Once more inanimate objects recognise the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam and further to that, they send Salaam upon him. The trees and stones more importantly recognised that the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam is the Messenger of Allah, and they found it important to proclaim their Salaam on the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam. By the trees and stones acknowledging the Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam as the Messenger of Allah it re-affirms the Ayat, ‘We have not sent you but as a mercy unto the worlds.’ Because different world to humans is now recognising the Holy Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wasallam as the Messenger of Allah.
