The most common method we follow for hair loss is changing of Shampoos, conditioners, using hair oils, external application of FDA approved solutions, and many home remedies. But do you know the problem can lie inside your body and these methods can be of no effect at all?
There are many reasons for hair loss from age to genetics, but lets concentrate on the lesser known reason: The hormone Testosterone.
What? Do hormones cause hair fall?
Yes. The main mechanism into losing hair is due to the steroid hormone testosterone.
Testosterone is a male hormone which is converted by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase into dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, which attacks and shortens the growth phase of the hair, shrinks the size of the hair follicle until it stops growing new hair completely. This causes Androgenetic Alopecia.
Are women affected by this?
Yes. Women also have testosterone (male hormones) in their body.
Oh. I had no clue hormones can be a reason too. What do I do now?
Do not worry. All you have to do is to add the two supplements/capsules in your daily life. They are:
2. Vitamin B6
There have been studies in which Zinc is shown to inhibit 5 alpha reductase activity and it has therefore been concluded that Zinc is beneficial in disease and disorders related to an excess in dihydrotestosterone (DHT). There have also been studies which have shown that vitamin B6, Zinc and Azelaic Acid combined together even at very low concentrations reduced a 90% inhibition of 5 alpha reductase activity.
Do you think this is going to make any difference?
Vit B6: Several studies have used the vitamin B6 in hair regrowth studies with pleasant results. Once such study appeared in the Polish journal Wiadomosci Lekarskie in 2001 and concluded that vitamin B6 injections improved hair condition and helped reduce hair loss in women. Another study appeared in the November 1998 British journal of Dermatology.
Zinc: Zinc is another nutrient that helps maintain healthy hair, according to Columbia University Health Services. Dull, brittle and unhealthy hair is caused by lack of normal zinc levels in your system.
OK. What is the required intake of these supplements?
The amount of vitamin B6 you need depends on your age. Average daily recommended amounts are listed below in milligrams (mg).

Any other advice?
-Never take Vit B6 and Zinc in larger quantities without consultation with your doctor (follow the recommended amounts listed in the chart above).
-Some doctors may prescribe a higher dose of zinc and vitamin B6 depending on how severe your hair fall is (if it is due to hormone)
-If hair fall is excess, it can be due to other problems such as Thyroid, Anemia.
-Do not expect rapid results as supplements take weeks to months to show improvement.
-Zinc and Vitamin B6 are healthy supplements which can be taken even if your hair is healthy. They are excellent for skin problems, regulate your metabolism and boost your immune system.
