Social Media Team at work on 23rd March Jalsa
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been an innovative force in Pakistan’s political scene from day one. This is even truer for their technological initiatives. PTI was the first political party in Pakistan to have outstanding Web and Social Media presence, and has since then made significant technological strides through the launch of Insaf TV, Insaf Radio, Google Hangout with Imran Khan, and live streaming of PTI Jalsas. They have continued this proud tradition by launching the first Official App for any political party of Pakistan on January 20th 2013 on the App Store. The App can be found on the Apple App Store by searching for ‘PTI Official’ or simply the link insaf.pk/iphone.This App can be installed on iPhones and iPads among other iOS based devices.
The main page of the App has a voter verification link at the top, completely in line with the party’s emphasis on increasing voter engagement in the 2013 elections. Moving on, you can see links for Insaf Radio and Insaf TV loaded on the page with a picture of Imran Khan pointing towards the user and asking ‘Ab Naheen Tou Kab, Hum Naheen Tau Kaun’. The graphics of the App consist of primary PTI colors i.e. maroon and green!
The bottom interface of the Application has all the options, the most impressive of which, resides in the info tab. This option contains the party’s ideology, constitution, its revolutionary policies, and the leadership’s assets. All this proudly displayed as a symbol of hope and change against other parties that rely on electables and family names to further their agenda. The tab ‘About the App’ contains the "Release Notes" of the App and a very charming "Making of the App" story by the App Team (Jibran Ilyas, Haris Siddiqui and Aly Boghani) who worked tirelessly for this political first. They dedicated the App to their fearless leader, Mr. Imran Khan and the Youth of PTI. The ‘News’ tab pulls in live information from the insaf.pk website, the official Facebook page of the party, as well as Insaf blogs.
Right besides it, the ‘twitter’ tab pulls in streams from PTI’s official twitter page, Imran Khan’s page, as well as a twitter account for the mobile App itself, which contains "App Diary". The team intends to use this twitter account for alerting the App users for feature updates. PTI has also set itself apart by following the Obama model of engaging its people and collecting small ticket size donations from the Pakistani diaspora. The ‘contribute’ page links to contribute.insaf.pk where people can make financial contributions to the party.
Finally, the ‘Actions’ tab presents users with an option to become paying members and make recurring payments to the party. They can also offer volunteering service and make an impact through their efforts or share the App with their friends and family.
This App marks a landmark development and puts a feather in PTI Social Media Team's cap. PTI is a party that has redefined conventional wisdom every step of the way. While political statements and confusions run riot on Pakistani televisions time and again and the national conversation stoops to lower levels everyday, it is this fervor that differentiates the core of this party from others and will help it make a difference in the 2013 general elections. The App can be browsed at the following link: https://insaf.pk/iPhone
PTI's Social Media Team is the one that never rests on their past laurels. When asked about future plans, they immediately announced the next version of iPhone App and the launch of PTI's Official Android App in the near future.
