Mozy, part of the Cloud Infrastructure and Services Division of EMC has released the MozyHome for Mac. The newly announced service delivers unlimited online backup for Mac users. That means Mac users can now back up their digital information over the Internet safely and cost effectively.

“Mozy is honoring its roots by augmenting its service to consumers and small businesses,” said Vance Checketts, chief operating officer, Mozy. “We’ve had more than 43,000 individuals participate in our public beta and have devoted thousands of hours of development to this new MozyHome for Mac release.”

While uses can save up to 2GB of data for free of charge online with no expiration date, they can alternatively also choose an unlimited online backup capacity plan for $4.95 a month.

MozyHome protects users’ information data loss in the event of a hard drive crash, accidental deletion, natural disaster or theft.

All files are encrypted with 448-bit Blowfish encryption and the encrypted files are transferred via a 128-bit SSL connection. It is same encryption that is used for online banking — during the backup process for extra security.

Apart from the most recent backup, Mozy also keeps 30 days worth of file versions as well. Hence in case of loss of data, the most recent version can be recovered via the Mozy client software, downloaded from the Mozy website, or users can also order the files on a set of DVDs from Mozy.

Also Mozy has announced a business version of its Mac service to enhance its MozyPro and MozyEnterprise offerings by Summer 2008.
