Madrid, Jan 10: Fernando Torres' spectacular second-half equaliser earned Atletico Madrid a 1-1 draw in their Copa del Rey fifth round first leg against Osasuna on Tuesday (9th January).

Atletico dominated on their home ground for long periods of the first half but Pierre Webo gave the visitors a shock lead on 37 minutes.

Atletico went down to 10 men at the start of the second half when Pablo was dismissed for a bad foul on Webo but Torres gave them hope of reaching the quarter-finals with a fine right-foot shot 17 minutes from time.

The Estadio Vicente Calderon was far from full for Atletico Madrid's Copa del Rey fifth round first leg against Osasuna.

Atletico dominated for long periods of the first half and came close to taking the lead on 27 minutes when Sergio Aguero played a clever one-two with Fernando Torres but his effort just drifted wide of the far post.

Osasuna keeper Ricardo was left flat-footed seven minutes later when Mista just failed to connect with Jose Manuel Jurado's clipped through-pass with the ball bouncing agonisingly past the upright.

But having failed to create anything like a chance in the first 36 minutes, the visitors took a shock lead.

After a bizarre corner routine, Javier Flano hit the ball across the area and Pierre Webo slotted home from close range to stun the Calderon.

Things got worse for Madrid at the start of the second half when Pablo was shown a straight red card for going through the back of Webo.

Atleti's hopes of reaching the quarter-finals were in real danger but they had the outstanding player on the pitch in Fernando Torres and it was he who saved them yet again.

After taking down Luis Perea's cross from the right, the Spanish international cut inside Flano before unleashing an unstoppable right-foot shot past Ricardo into the top corner.

It finished 1-1 meaning there is everything to play for in the second leg in Pamplona next Wednesday.
