Guess what? In their first film together after marriage, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan would be pitted against each other.
If Mani Ratnam’s Guru immortalized the chemistry between Abhishek and Aishwarya, Ram Gopal Varma ’s sequel to Sarkar will bring forth the antagonism between the characters played by Ash and Abhi.
For, in Sarkar Raj the real-life couple is pitted opposite each other. Their characters and personalities are “diametrically opposite,” in the words of Varma.
The film has Ash playing a manipulative and ruthless businesswoman who doesn’t care to bend the rules to make money from the people. On the other hand, Abhishek’s character has shades of philanthropy. He, too, makes money, but for the people and not from them.
This basic ideological polarity is the difference between Ash and Abhi in ‘Sarkar Raj’. Their characters are antagonistic to each other before their conflict takes a different turn and transforms into subdued romance.
In an interview, Varma says he was “shocked” when Ash performed beyond his expectations and brought a right mix of emotion and intensity into her character in the film.
Varma says ‘Sarkar Raj’ is a bigger film than its prequel. The movie doesn’t carry the old story forward, but takes a look at another episode in the Nagare family’s life.
The filmmaker also denies the reports that ‘Sarkar Raj’ has been postponed from its scheduled May-end release.
