Arabian delight: Mystic mehendi on Id
Friday, October,12 2007 (Hyderabad):
Just before Id, women don their hands with intricate mehendi designs. But this year its the Arabic design that is most popular among women in Hyderabad.
A Hyderabadi woman Vaishnavi Soni said, "Every year I fill my hands with Henna but this year I like the simple look. On Id I will stick kundun and glitter on it."
The usual zardozi, baandhni, dhoop-chaun or remix mehendi designs are pass .
Henna artist Suman said, "Usually Arabic design has flowers or leaves. They are red inside and outlined with black henna which is why it looks so beautiful."
Clove oil is a must in the mehendi mixture for an Arabic design to run smoothly, and takes just an hour to dry. Then tapping some lemon and sugar syrup on the mehendi gives the darkest shade of red you desire.
