Tiruchirappalli, June 20: In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old boy, the son of a doctor couple, performed a cesarean operation at a maternity hospital run by them at Mannapparai near here.

Watched by his parents, Xth class student Dhileepan Raj was encouraged to perform the surgery for setting a record, the boy`s father Dr Murugesan had told a recent meeting of Indian medical association and reportedly showed a VCD to back his claim, secretary of Tamil Nadu chapter of IMA Dr Ravi Shankar told reporters over phone.

Attempts to contact Murugesan and his wife Dr Gandhimathy proved futile.

Shankar said that on receiving information about the surgery, the association had called for an explanation. In his reply, Murugesan said that he asked his son to perform the surgery at the family run Mathi Surgical and Maternity Hospital.

"It is unethical and against the law and they could be booked under provisions of the IPC for abetting his son to perform an illegal act," Shankar said adding that only the state medical council could take any action against Murugesan a Master of Surgery (MS) and his gynaecologist wife.

Shankar said he was collecting material about the incident and would send his report to the council sometime next week for further action.

Chairman of State Medical Council Dr Muthurajan said he had come to know of the incident only today and was awaiting a report from the medical association.

I wouldn't be surprised if they parents were given strict warnings or stripped of their doctor title

Whatever the case maybe..i'd still say that it was stupid or whatever the word might be, of the father n mother..to make their son perform that operation..it is illegal N if they wanted to make their son look like a Doggie Howser..they could've enrolled him into a medical coll. n make him a doc. at a that age..I gotta say AMAZING yet STUPID

This is my view..so, sorry if others don't share the same
