With over a billion gallons of ice cream sold annually in the United States, it's no surprise that July is National Ice Cream Month. Eight percent of all the milk produced in the U.S.ends up as a frozen treat. Although ice cream has been popular since the 1700s, it wasn't until 1984 that a proclamation designated July as National Ice Cream Month.
