Iranian press highlights Pakistan’s position on Mumbai attacks
TEHRAN, Nov 30 (APP): A large section of Iranian press both English and Persian has highlighted Pakistan’s position on the terrorist attacks in Mumbai and has also prominently carried remarks by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Persian daily Iran in its comments on the incident said that India is considered the world’s largest democracy, but changes of the recent years particularly the treatment of Muslims and the approach of the central Indian government has left major crises beneath India’s socio-cultural layers specially on the Kashmir scene.
The Indian government’s treatment of Kashmiris has not been proper and discriminatory attitude of the Indian security system against religious minorities has led to such hostilities.
Iran News in its editorial titled: India edging towards disintegration stated: Every time India is attacked, Pakistan or Bangladeshi extremists are suspected of being behind it, but investigations have always proven to the contrary.
The editorial further states that the main opposition party BJP might have carried out this attack in an attempt to vent frustration at the Congress Party and prepare the grounds for winning the next election.
The Iran Daily opined that damage to India will be shortlived and bearable. But the harm that can and will visit the other side of the border will last longer only to the detriment of the Muslim nation and their search for stability and sustainable development.
The daily further states that this incident will sharpen focus on Pakistan, which is already under pressure from the US, NATO and Afghanistan in the context of the war on terror.
The comment goes on to assert that the terrorist incident will prompt India to play a greater role in the conflict in Afghanistan and the tribal regions in Pakistan. The comment concludes by saying that in such a scenario, Pakistan is apt to get a raw deal and it will have more at its hands than it can effectively deal with.
Kayhan International in its editorial comments said that Mumbai’s mayhem was undoubtedly the bloody work of terrorists trained by the CIA and the Mossad.
Some senior officials and the press insinuated by the Zionist-controlled western media, were quick to point fingers at neighboring Pakistan as part of the pressure tactics on the traditional rival, which clearly does not stand to benefit in any way by promoting terrorism in India.
Today’s Kayhan International carries a news item which states that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has sent a message of condolence to the Indian President and Prime Minister.
Condemning the terrorist acts President Ahmadinejad has been quoted as saying that the ugly phenomenon of terrorism is rooted in unjust and domineering international policies, which try to demolish regional security and stability adding, “I am confident that the ominous event cannot stop regional development.” |
