A number spa goers of Asian countries, Turkey and U.S. are giving in to this new treatment for feet called fish pedicure. Not to worry, although the treatment seems like they're out of a science fiction film, the treatment is quite safe and enjoyable.

Fish pedicures has been the hot pick of most beauty junkies in the D.C. area, where a northern Virginia spa has been offering them for the past four months. John Ho, who runs the Yvonne Hair and Nails salon with his wife, Yvonne Le, said 5,000 people have taken the plunge so far. In one of the interviews he states that he traveled all the way to China to learn the art of using these tiny doctor fish

The fishes used for the pedicure are known as Doctor Fish, or Garra Rufa. These little friendly monsters have an obsession with dry, flaking human skin. Doctor fish feed on dry skin and need it to survive. However, that doesn't mean they like skin in general. They don't have teeth, so it's impossible for them to bite or tear into live skin. After a treatment for 30 minutes to an hour in the tank, customers get a standard pedicure, made easier by the soft skin the doctor fish leave behind.

At first, John Ho was skeptical about the fish pedicure, which was first used in Turkey. He spent a year and about $40,000 to get the fish pedicure salon started. However his thought of just thriving into this risky business, didn't let him down, but thrived him to great business growth within months. The treatment costs $35 for 15 minutes and $50 for 30 minutes. The spa has more than 1,000 fish, with about 100 in each individual pedicure tank at any given time. Ho is now thinking of starting a full-body fish treatment that could treat psoriasis and other skin ailments.

So are you, ready for the latest in spa pampering?
