Nithari killings: UP panel had recommended actiion against 15

Lucknow, Jan 20: A committee of the Uttar Pradesh government that probed the serial killings at Nithari had recommended action against 15 police personnel, including the suspension of three officers, for their "apathetic" handling of the investigation into the murder of women and children.

Acting on the findings of the two-member panel comprising Additional Director General of police (law and order) A C Sharma and Home Secretary A K Sinha, the state government suspended three officers -- Noida`s former SSP Piyush Mordia, ASP Soumitra Yadav and Circle Officer Sewak Ram Yadav -- and dismissed six sub-inspectors, sources said.

The committee, in its reports submitted to the state government on January 03 and 05, had also recommended action against two gazetted officers and four sub-inspectors, the sources said.

It was not immediately known whether action had been taken against these six personnel.

The committee was appointed by the state government soon after the serial killings, allegedly by businessman Moninder Singh Pandher and Surender Koli, came to light.

The panel recommended that action should be taken against the 15 personnel for their "indifference" to the Nithari killings and their "apathetic attitude" during the investigation.

Sharma told here this evening that the committee submitted its reports to the government on January 03 and 05. The investigation was subsequently handed over to the CBI, he said.
